HYDRA-SPORTS® BOATS WIN AND PLACE IN
FLW STRIPER CHAMPIONSHIP
SARASOTA, Fla., December 11, 2006—The winning streak enjoyed by FLW saltwater anglers in Hydra-Sports® boats is spreading to other lucrative tournament circuits. Team Keephers, captained by Matthew Fleisher of Niantic, CT, won the inaugural Wal-Mart FLW Striper Series Championship in Virginia Beach.
The team won $50,000 and the title in their Hydra-Sports 2900CC with twin Evinrude E-TEC® 250s, with a three-day total of five striped bass weighing 73 pounds. The $20,000 purse was matched with bonuses of $15,000 each from Hydra-Sports and Evinrude.
This payoff may have been especially sweet to Fleisher, who says he purchased his boat and motor package as soon as the new striper circuit and bonus plans were announced.
“We were so excited about this circuit starting up that, when they announced it, I went and bought a new Hydra-Sports with twin Evinrudes the next day,” he said. “We love it and had a really great time this season.”
Three of the top five boats in the championship were Hydra-Sports boats and qualified for bonuses from the manufacturer.
The first- and fourth-place boats were sponsored by Atlantic Outboard, and the second- place boat by Goottee’s Marine, both top-performing Hydra-Sports dealers.
Tournament success is nothing new for teams in Hydra-Sports boats. In November, “Team Sea Bandit” won the prestigious Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour Championship—a $150,000 purse, including bonuses—also in a Hydra-Sports 2900CC. “Team Castrol” and their Hydra-Sports 3300CC was named Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Tour “Team of the Year.”

The 2900CC, like the other large center consoles in the Hydra-Sports Vector™ series, was designed from the keel up for tournament-level fishing. At 29’8” overall with a 9’8” beam, the 2900CC is a roomy, but trailerable platform. The 300-gallon fuel capacity and fast, sleek design give the boat exceptional range.
Standard features include a 55-gallon lighted baitwell, three insulated fishboxes and ample storage throughout, including an in-floor bin forward that is ideal for storing large cast nets. A t-top comes standard, along with cockpit bolsters and toe rail. Popular options include outriggers, the latest Raymarine electronics and auto pilot, T-top enclosure and even a second livewell in place of the aft fishbox.
The FLW Striper Series is an all catch-and-release circuit, with only artificial lures allowed and a two-pound penalty for each fish killed. Each team may weigh in only two striped bass ranging in size from 28 to 34 inches per day. Twenty six teams competed in the championship after qualifying in six FLW Striper Series events in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Maryland.
